Spread betting in the 1980s was deemed more of a sideline for the city slickers of London but nowadays, how the spread betting world has changed.

Spread betting is now big business both for the spread betting companies and for the investors too. It is now seen as a good alternative investment and is open to everyone.  Indeed, some people actually make a living from spread betting.

For the investor, a great attraction to the art of spread trading is the fact there are no commissions to pay out to a shares company, no broker fees and all the profits are completely tax free and hence spread betting is now a mass market.

This is not to say that it is without risk, far from it. If you are researching spread betting you will read many stories of those who had their fingers burnt and claim it is a devilish invention; however, spread betting is not something you should jump headfirst into. You can lose more than your investment and does not suit everyone.  You should only use money you can afford to lose and you need to understand what you are doing.

Financial spread betting covers all sorts of markets from currency and forex trading to trading on indices of all sorts including shares. Nobody can spread bet successfully on them all as to be successful you need to know your market well.
