Goodwill Fortunes

Charity is all around us, especially with events such as Comic Relief and Red Nose Day held last month. Whether you actively donate to charity on a regular basis or you participate in the aforementioned charity events, the funds that are raised each year continue to grow.

However, during the economic depression, will these charity donations be down this year?  Like Christmas, the highlighting of these occasions comes earlier and earlier each year, encouraging people to part with their money for a worthy cause. The question is do people have any spare money to make a difference at the moment?

In 1999, Red Nose Day raised a staggering £35 million and nearly doubled in 2007 to £67.7 million. Many of the larger charity organisations have seen their contributions level out and in light of recent Comic Relief awareness they have struggled to attract new business.

From a financial spread betting point of view, the figures quoted above are a relatively good starting point for wagering a bet on whether or not we will see an increase in charity giving or not.  However when betting on such things, it is not always as clear cut as you may think and despite funds getting off to a good start it can sometimes plateau off into nothing. If you do some general homework with regards to this matter, you will be able to decide whether or not it’s worth taking a risk with your fortune on this kind of spread betting.
