Many people think that to be involved in trading and spread betting you have to be wealthy and perhaps that was true once upon a time, but that’s certainly not the case now. Many companies now offer the chance of being able to open a spread betting account with as little as a £100 and it should be remembered that if you can’t afford the initial deposit then you shouldn’t be thinking about spread betting because you can’t afford to lose, and this does sometimes happen. Trading with that amount is not going to make you wealthy either, no matter how well you do, but what it will allow you to do is to learn how to trade and this is extremely important if you want to do well. That's why when you open an account, you should only open one with the bare minimum. |

If spread betting was a losing game then nobody would be doing it. However, if it was all a one way street in favour of the investor, major companies would not be willing to allow themselves to be fleeced. So, if people weren't making money, in some cases, serious money, then there wouldn't be a market for it, a market that is growing at an unbelievable rate. There have to be winners and losers. How would the concept work if this wasn’t the case? According to current calculations, almost 90% of those who tread into the spread betting markets close their accounts within 3 months and this is thought to be because they enter into spread betting without any real knowledge or plan of what they want out of it. They naively fling their money into anything that appears to be going up or down and foolishly think that when they're losing money that their luck will change so pour more money into it, alternatively they trade in the reverse direction. |

Halifax Building Society noted national average house prices were down 0.5% in October 2008. In spread betting conditions, house price bets are a peculiarity. Having a bet on equities or commodity prices can reach quick and lucid results, because prices are impulsive but house prices vary slowly, taking months for trends to become apparent. Most spread betters need a particular confidence to play the market. |

In using basic economic data for financial spread betting, there are a number of significant and helpful points that you, as a spread better, should consider and focus upon: Familiarise yourself with the market probability: whatever the news coming out may be, it is not the data that moves the market. It is all about expectations and how the basic data differs from market agreement. |

According to Reuters, the global economy is coming to a virtual standstill and it is vitally important that policy-makers purify the banking system of noxious assets to help reinstate progression and development. In a bleak evaluation of the world economy, the IMF cut its 2009 forecast to a slight 0.5 percent, the weakest year since World War Two, from a November estimate of 2.2 percent. |

As with all gambles there are risks and it wouldn’t be fair to imply that when participating in spread betting that you are on to a sure thing, there are some pitfalls too. Over confidence is one of many mistakes made. If you become over confident in a bet you may lose the power to think realistically and rationally. This in turn may cause you to bet more than you should and incur financial harm to yourself. There may be times when you find yourself emotional while betting, therefore you must remember to bet with reason, not with an urge to have bets on teams or markets you favour, instead concentrate on what the prices and stats say. |

If you take note of the headlines you will see that they continue to focus on the slump in stock prices and assurance in the American capitalist system, some economists caution that such analysis of the current economic climate are based more on propaganda than on real market conditions. Brian Henderson, Vice Chairman of Merrill Lynch Europe, believes that “It makes great headlines and sells newspapers” during an interview with the Foreign Policy Association. “It is too simplistic to say that the problem is one of confidence in the U.S. [market]. There is a realistic relocation of assets based on a market perception as opposed to a political issue or as opposed to some kind of social concern of the degradation of the American image.”
Stephen King of London's Independent points out why such relocation is taking place. “For foreign investors, the United States has lost its allure,” King writes, noting that those who put their money into American businesses have failed to “extract the financial returns that should be their due for having invested in the U.S. New Economy over the past few years.” “For much of the past decade, America has been the dynamo of world economic growth. It seems now to be disappearing into a double dip and there's no one around to seize the baton,” says another piece in The Independent. |
