You may think that financial spreadbetting is something new, this may be the case if it’s something you are relatively unaware of. However this is not the case, spreadbetting has been around for 30 + years in the UK having developed in the 1970’s. Stuart Wheeler formulated an arcane, high-risk method of gambling on the movement of the stockmarkets, which also spilled over into the sports world.

With the Budget comes figures and these figures are absolutely vital when it comes to spread betting. Earlier this month Alistair Darling predicted a fall in UK deficit. This figure was a little wide of the mark and had a spread better taken this into account, they would now be looking at a pleasant sum of money in their spread betting account.

Lingerie and perfume firm Agent Provocateur has recently reported that sales in the last year have increased by 8% to £22.4 million which is a positive sign for anyone who has shares within the company. A private equity company, 3i recently acquired the firm and although earnings were leaning towards the downside of the spectrum last year, a speculate to accumulate approach proved beneficial in the end. Investing in new stores may have seemed like financial suicide in the current climate and it was perhaps a more favourable idea to bank what money they were making rather than take a risk with it, however the risk paid off and this too can be the case if you are deciding to take up spread betting. |

If you don’t know what the word ‘spread’ means within financial spread betting then read on. The spread is simply the point difference between the buying price and the selling price. For instance, you buy a share at an amount between 250 points (price) and 270 point (price), the spread is the difference between these two amounts, in this case, 20 points (price). Once a quote is agreed the spread better will then decide an amount they will pay or earn for each point change in the value of the stock. |

You don’t need to be a genius to know that 2008 was a drastic year for investors and the stockmarket as the pound plummeted and stockmarket shares took a nosedive. In addition to this house prices also fell and the only rise anyone could see was in unemployment. The future would appear bleak but to some individuals there have been some positive movements in their finances and some profits have been made. |

With unemployment figures in the UK rising above two million, economists envisage that by next year the amount could reach somewhere in the region of three million. The Office for National Statistics has reported the rate to have soared to 6.5% between November and January. Redundancies are happening thick and fast and whilst this is beneficial to companies struggling to cope with cutbacks, it is bad news for employees everywhere during the current recession. It is estimated that for every job vacancy there are 10 people in pursuit of the advertisement, there are simply no jobs out there. Employers are averse to hiring staff as the need to cutback on budgets is far more prevalent. Individual workloads are buckling under the pressure and stress levels are reaching an all time high. No-one is safe. Despite the prospect of having to live ‘hand to mouth’ in the not too distant future, redundancy payouts are the only sure-fire thing you can rely on if you are unfortunate enough to lose your job and whilst you calculate how long this money will last before it runs out there may be a possibility you could cultivate this money into something far more worthwhile. Taking risks with your last pennies may not be something that sounds very sensible but if you don’t weigh up the possibilities, how will you know? If someone were to tell you that with one small venture you could increase your revenue, you’d be interested wouldn’t you? If, and only if, you feel that you could afford to take this gamble then you need to be studying the benefits of financial spread betting. Rather than frittering your money away on an ordinary bet at the bookies you could have a spread bet in the comfort of your own home. At the click of a button you could open an account, deposit what you can afford and with the appropriate amount of information and confidence, become pennies, even pounds richer than when you started.

If you disregard the derogatory title of this article and recognise that not everyone knows the full story in terms of spread betting then you will understand that not only will this article teach some people a thing or two, it also allows everyone to see the bigger picture when it comes to financial spread betting or spread trading as it is sometimes referred to. No-one is saying that it is hard to understand yet there are so many people who think because it’s called spread ‘betting’ that it’s some kind of gambling that takes place at the bookies every afternoon. Spread betting leans more towards trading than it does betting; this has now probably conjured images of high flying businessmen and women in pinstripe suits screaming and shouting at an innumerable amount of figures on a screen. Enough with the stereotypes? |

Everyone knows the benefits of having a gamble; if your prediction succeeds, you win money. Well there is no difference when you participate in spread betting or spread trading as it is also known. However, there is a difference in the fact that you’re not actually forecasting a win in terms of something coming first, a spread bet is expanding the chances of how you win. |

If you stereotypically think of a stockbroker, one of the main elements of their day to day life will be the pressure you imagine them to be under. Whether this is regarded as a stereotype or not, the fact remains trading is a stressful career to have. Excitement, tension and the ability to think ahead is all part and parcel of their make-up. Traders have to keep their fingers on the pulse of the stockmarket and indeed global news. They need to be aware of sudden shifts in the market and when it’s the best to trade, if they want to see any profit they have to be one step ahead of developments. |

Recent financial reports have claimed that public finances are depreciating at a disturbing rate and that net borrowing will rise to £180bn, exceeding the forecasts the Chancellor has already predicted. The Ernst & Young Item Club conjecture has also called for a temporary cut in National Insurance contributions in the hope that it may encourage businesses to employ staff. If anyone unfortunate enough to be without employment at the moment has looked within the job pages and recruitment centres, they will have noticed there is very little to pick and choose at. |
